Spirii is continuously improving how we manage financial processes across the platform to ensure greater consistency, scalability, and transparency. As part of this work, we have modernised how self-billing invoices are generated for charging consumption payouts.
This article explains how the Self-Billing invoices work and how you can analyze them.
Overview
To improve transparency, we are simplifying the self-billing invoice structure, consolidating all usage into a single invoice line.
In addition, all charge detail records (CDRs) will be sent together with your self-billing invoice. This provides a complete overview of all charging activity and removes the need to download or export data separately from the platform.
How does the Self-Billing work?
Spirii acts as a buyer-reseller of charging consumption in certain business models. This means that Spirii purchases charging sessions from Charge Point Operators (CPOs) and site owners, and then resells them through multiple charging networks and roaming partners.
To simplify operations and ensure consistent financial handling, Spirii uses Self-Billing Invoices to settle payouts to CPOs and site owners.
What is a Self-Billing Invoice?
A Self-Billing Invoice is an invoice created by Spirii on behalf of the supplier (e.g. CPO or site owner).
Instead of the supplier issuing an invoice manually, Spirii:
- Tracks charging consumption
- Calculates revenue based on agreed commercial terms
- Generates the invoice automatically
- Pays out the supplier based on validated consumption data
This is a common industry model for high-volume transactional platforms like EV charging networks.
What does this invoice look like?
Each supplier receiving a self-billing document will receive one document per Country and Currency containing a single line for the total consumption.
What is included in the specification file?
The specification file will include:
- All CDRs – these are the sessions that are included in the self-billing invoice.
- Non-billed CDRs – these are sessions that are not included in the self-billing invoice, with the reason clearly indicated for each.
This provides a complete and transparent dataset, allowing you to analyse consumption by location, payment method, or other parameters. To support you with analyzing the Self-Billing invoice, read Reconciliation of Self-Billing, that will guide you in detail about how you can reconcile your charging revenues.
